Network Assembly of the Velocity Interoperability Network Established

The Network Assembly of the Velocity Interoperability Network has been formally established. The Assembly is the deliberative body of the Network. It considers and passes measures that become Network law, examines the conduct of departments and network services, hears petitions from the staff of member organisations and citizens, and keeps a public record of its proceedings.

The inaugural sitting was held today in the Assembly Chamber at Central Exchange. Sixty delegates, elected by the 312 member organisations of the Network in twelve member constituencies, took their seats. The sitting elected a Presiding Officer by ballot on the first round, elected two Deputy Presiding Officers, confirmed the Standing Orders adopted provisionally by the Preparatory Convention on 28 August, and established five standing committees. Five measures received their first reading and were entered in the Register of Measures.

The Assembly at present has 84 seats. The 24 seats reserved for citizen delegates will be filled following the first citizens' election, expected in the first quarter of 2027; until then the Assembly sits with the 60 delegates of member organisations. The first regular sitting week begins on Tuesday 15 September 2026.
